DUCATI 749/999 RACE FAIRINGS & BODYWORK
Race fairings for the distinctive Ducati 749 and 999 Superbike series (2003–2006) are specialized components essential for track conversion. These kits are engineered to provide maximum weight reduction, optimal aerodynamic flow, and full safety compliance for this iconic, yet controversial, V-twin platform. They are available in durable, race-proven composites, chiefly Fiberglass (GRP/FRP) reinforced with Kevlar-Carbon (K-K), and premium Carbon Fibre (CFRP), offering superior track performance compared to the OEM plastics.

749/999 - V-Twin Performance and Unique Chassis
The 749/999 series, designed by Pierre Terblanche, features a unique and highly aerodynamic profile, crucial for its success in World Superbike. The race bodywork focuses on preserving this aerodynamic efficiency while effectively managing the extreme heat from the stacked L-twin engine and minimizing mass.
1. Material Choice and Racing Requirements:
| Material Type | Core Advantage | Specific Benefit for 749/999 Racing |
| GRP (Fiberglass) | Cost-Effective Durability and Flexibility. | The preferred choice for club racing and track days. High-quality GRP kits are light, resilient, and the most economical material to repair after a slide. |
| Kevlar-Carbon (K-K) | Targeted Safety and Puncture Resistance. | Essential for reinforcing the mandatory sealed lower fairing (belly pan), especially around the exhaust routing, ensuring the integrity of the fluid containment area in a crash. |
| CFRP (Full Carbon Fibre) | Maximum Lightweight Optimization. | The premium option for riders seeking the absolute lightest setup and highest structural stiffness. Carbon provides superior strength-to-weight ratio. |
2. Essential Race Fairing Components & Features:
The fairings eliminate all road equipment, optimizing the V-twin Superbikes for competition.
-
Sealed Lower Fairing (Belly Pan): Mandatory for all track events. The lower fairing is a sealed unit, meticulously shaped to accommodate large, complex race exhaust systems (which often run tight to the fairing) while guaranteeing the required volume capacity for oil and coolant containment.
-
Aerodynamic Simplification: The upper fairing replaces the vertically stacked headlight unit with a smooth, lightweight race nose cone. This design ensures optimal flow into the large central air intake.
-
Heat Management: Due to the intense heat generated by the L-twin, the fairings often feature optimized venting to improve airflow over the radiator and headers, crucial for maintaining consistent engine performance.
-
Fitment Note: The 749 and 999 models generally use interchangeable fairings. The racing tail section is designed to fit the OEM subframe (with a self-supporting seat unit) and uses a high-grip foam seat pad.
The fairings are designed for use with quick-release fasteners to simplify on-track assembly and disassembly. However, drilling and the quick-release fasteners themselves are not included in the kit and must be ordered separately.
