APRILIA RS/RSW 125 RACE FAIRINGS & BODYWORK

Race fairings for the Aprilia RS 125 and its direct racing counterpart, the RSW 125, are mandatory for competitive track use. These specialized kits are engineered for maximum weight reduction, optimal aerodynamic slipstream, and structural resilience—all essential factors in high-performance 125cc two-stroke racing. Available in Fiberglass (GRP/FRP), Kevlar-Carbon (K-K), and pure Carbon Fibre (CFRP), they ensure the bike is compliant with all racing regulations, specifically the sealed lower fairing for fluid containment.

RS/RSW 125 - Year-Specific Fitment is Crucial

The RS 125 platform saw multiple major bodywork and chassis revisions over its production run (1992–2012). Fairings are generally NOT interchangeable between major generations. You must select the correct kit for your specific year range.

1. Fairing Generations (Most Common):

Generation/Model Production Years Key Visual & Fitment Distinctions
Mk1 (Extrema) ~1992–1998 Angular, early GP-style bodywork. Often uses the Rotax 123 engine. Unique subframe and fairing stay.
Mk2 (Rotax 122) ~1999–2005 More rounded/bulbous fairings. Distinctive front-end profile. Most popular model for club racing.
Mk3 (RSV1000R Style) ~2006–2012 Angular, aggressive styling mimicking the RSV4/RSV1000R Superbike. Radial brakes introduced.
RSW 125 GP Race Bike Pure Grand Prix aerodynamics. Fairings are highly specialized, extremely light, and only fit GP frames or specific aftermarket replica kits.

2. Material Choice and Racing Imperatives:

Material Type Core Advantage Application in 125cc Racing
GRP (Fiberglass) Low Cost and Easy Repair. The standard for privateer and entry-level racing. Quality GRP provides good stiffness and is easily repaired after the inevitable track incidents. Often reinforced with Kevlar at mounting points.
Kevlar-Carbon (K-K) Puncture Resistance (Safety). Crucial for the belly pan area. The Kevlar weave prevents the fairing from tearing and spilling fluids (oil/coolant) onto the track after a slide, maintaining safety compliance.
CFRP (Full Carbon Fibre) Absolute Lightness. Used by top-level teams where shaving every gram is critical to hit the minimum required weight. Offers the highest stiffness but is the most expensive and prone to catastrophic failure.

3. Essential Design Features for Track Function:

  • Fluid Containment Belly Pan: The lower fairing is always a sealed, one-piece unit designed to capture engine fluids in case of a mechanical failure or crash, as mandated by all racing organizations.

  • Exhaust Clearance: The fairings are molded to provide precise clearance for aftermarket race expansion chambers (exhausts), which are often larger and routed differently than OEM parts.

  • Aerodynamic Simplification: The race nose cone replaces the heavy, complex headlight unit with a smooth, lightweight panel to reduce drag and improve the bike's aerodynamic profile.

  • Serviceability: Quality kits (like those from Sebimoto) feature pre-marked drilling locations and are designed for use with Dzus quick-release fasteners for rapid pit-lane access to the compact two-stroke engine.3
